Common Issues

What We See Most

Not Cooling

The most common call we get. Could be refrigerant, a capacitor, a contactor, or airflow. We test everything before calling it.

Warm Air

System runs but pushes warm air. Often a refrigerant issue, a dirty coil, or a compressor starting to fail.

Weak Airflow

Low airflow is usually a dirty filter, a failing blower motor, or duct issues. Sometimes it's all three.

Short Cycling

System turns on and off every few minutes. Oversizing, refrigerant problems, or a dirty evaporator coil are common causes.

Water Leaking

Usually a clogged condensate drain. Can also be a frozen evaporator coil. Both need to be addressed quickly to avoid water damage.

Strange Noise

Banging, grinding, or squealing all mean something different. We listen before we open anything up.

Burning Smell

Turn the system off. Call us. Burning smells are a safety issue — electrical problems don't fix themselves.

Breaker Trips

The breaker is protecting the system from something. It could be a locked rotor, a bad capacitor, or a failing compressor. We find out which.

The Diagnostic

What We Check

Every diagnostic includes these measurements — not guesswork.

Refrigerant charge
Superheat / subcooling
Static pressure
Capacitor microfarads
Contactor pitting
Condensate drain
Airflow (CFM)
Temperature split
Electrical draw (amps)

OWNER-OPERATED

Meet Egor — Your Technician, Not a Salesman.

"I spent years working for Las Vegas's largest HVAC companies. I saw the same thing everywhere: technicians pushed to sell, not to solve. Customers paying for parts they didn't need. No one explaining what was actually wrong."

"I started EGO HVAC to do it differently. I show up to every job myself. I test everything, show you the proof, and let you decide. No commission. No parts cannon. Just honest diagnostics."

Vegas-Specific

Common AC Problems in Las Vegas Homes

Las Vegas puts more stress on air conditioning systems than almost anywhere in North America. When outdoor temperatures exceed 115°F for weeks, your AC runs 16–20 hours per day — double the national average. Here's what that means for your system.

Capacitor Failure

$150–$300

The most common AC repair in Las Vegas. Capacitors degrade faster in extreme heat. Symptoms: AC hums but won't start, or starts then shuts off quickly. Quick fix when caught during a diagnostic — expensive if it takes out the compressor.

Refrigerant Leaks

$250–$600

Desert temperature swings (40°F overnight, 115°F by noon) expand and contract copper refrigerant lines, causing micro-leaks over time. If your AC blows warm air but the fan runs fine, low refrigerant is a likely cause. We pressure-test every system — no guesswork.

Compressor Burnout

$2,800–$3,600

When an AC runs 20 hours/day in July with a dirty filter or low refrigerant, the compressor overheats. This is the most expensive AC repair and often means the system needs replacement. Our $95 diagnostic catches the warning signs before burnout happens.

Contactor Failure

$150–$250

The contactor is an electrical relay that turns the compressor on and off. In Las Vegas dust and heat, contacts pit and arc. Common symptom: AC clicks but doesn't start. Quick, affordable repair when caught early.

Frozen Evaporator Coil

$95–$300

Seems counterintuitive in the desert, but restricted airflow (dirty filter, blocked return) drops coil temperature below freezing. Ice builds up, airflow stops, and your AC can't cool. We diagnose the root cause — not just defrost the coil.

Thermostat Malfunction

$150–$350

Desert heat can fry thermostat electronics, especially in homes with south-facing thermostats near windows. If your AC cycles erratically or the display is blank, start here — it's often the cheapest fix on the list.

Every diagnostic starts at $95 — credited toward any repair. We show you the problem, explain your options, and quote a flat price before touching a tool.

Got Questions

AC Repair Questions

My AC isn't cooling — is it the refrigerant?
Sometimes, but not usually. Low refrigerant almost always means there's a leak. We test before we add anything — refilling a leaking system is throwing money away.
My breaker keeps tripping. Is that dangerous?
It can be. Turn the system off and call us. A breaker trip is the system protecting itself from something — we need to find out what.
How long does a repair take?
Most diagnostics take 30–60 minutes. Common repairs (capacitors, contactors, fan motors) are done the same visit if we have the part on the truck.

In Writing. No Exceptions.
