Why We Install R-454B Systems

Clark County adopted the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code effective January 11, 2026. At the same time, R-410A refrigerant is being phased out in favor of R-454B (a lower-GWP alternative). Most Vegas shops are still installing leftover R-410A inventory. We're not — every replacement we sell is code-compliant and uses the new refrigerant. That means the system you buy today will still be serviceable a decade from now without sourcing obsolete parts or banned refrigerant.

The 50% Rule

If the repair costs more than 50% of a new system, replacement usually makes more sense. A $3,000+ compressor repair on a 12-year-old system with R-22 refrigerant is throwing money at a unit that's near end-of-life.

The R-22 Factor

If your system uses R-22 (Freon), it's already on borrowed time. R-22 was phased out in 2020 and remaining supplies cost $80–$150/pound. A single recharge can cost $500–$1,500. Every future repair gets more expensive. Replacing with an R-454B system locks in lower operating costs for 15–20 years.

How do I know if I need a repair or replacement?

We show you the math. If the repair cost is more than 50% of a replacement and the system is over 10 years old, replacement usually wins. We run the numbers for you during the diagnostic.

How long does installation take?

Most residential replacements take 4–6 hours. We schedule a full day so we're never rushing.

What is R-454B refrigerant?

R-454B is the refrigerant replacing R-410A under new EPA and code requirements. It has a lower environmental impact and will be the serviceable standard for the next decade. Every system we install uses it.
